The Role
The Senior Financial Accountant leads the delivery of financial control, compliance, and reporting across our EMEA region. You will manage a portfolio of countries and be the escalation point for complex accounting and tax matters.
This includes overseeing month-end close, statutory compliance (VAT, CIT, financial statements), and external audit coordination. You will also support the Finance Manager EMEA as a strong second-in-command within the Poland office.
You will guide a team of Accountants and Financial Accountants, support their development, and lead the transition of compliance tasks from outsourced partners into the business. This role suits a hands-on financial leader who thrives on ownership, continuous improvement, and mentoring a high-performing finance team.
Oversee month-end for multiple countries, ensuring timely close and accurate GL integrity
Support Accountants and Financial Accountants in preparing and reviewing complex accruals and provisions
Perform detailed variance analysis (actual vs. forecast) to support commercial and strategic insights
Lead final review of P&L and Balance Sheet results for assigned countries
Consolidate key metrics and analysis across the region for inclusion in the EMEA Finance Pack
Provide insights to the Finance Manager to support discussions with senior stakeholders including the Director of Operations
Oversee statutory and tax compliance activities across EMEA including reviewing CIT packs, finalising financial statements, and managing audit timelines and deliverables
Coordinate with external accounting and tax providers to ensure timely and cost-effective compliance
Act as the escalation point for technical queries from Accountants and Financial Accountants
Provide technical review of complex journals, VAT submissions, and reconciliations
Coach and mentor team members, driving process consistency and deep country ownership
Support the Finance Manager in identifying tasks currently outsourced that can be brought in-house over time
Lead or contribute to transition plans that reduce reliance on external providers and increase internal capability
Identify process improvement opportunities and support automation or control enhancements
To be successful in this role you will have
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline (required)
Chartered Accountant CA/CPA qualified (or near completion)
Preferably experience supporting or working on German entities (accounting, tax, statutory accounts, and audit) and / or multiple European entities
Preferably exposure to managing or mentoring a small team
Fluent English and German
Ongoing CPD commitment and demonstrated interest in international financial reporting and compliance
5+ years’ experience in Financial or General Ledger Accounting roles, ideally in a multinational or multi-entity environment
Strong working knowledge of month-end close, general ledger reconciliations, journal reviews, and variance analysis
Hands-on experience preparing or reviewing VAT, CIT, and statutory reporting (preferably across EMEA jurisdictions)
Experience coordinating or supporting external audits
Demonstrated ability to review and guide junior accountants or support a team through peer reviews or process ownership
Exposure to ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and strong Excel skills (e.g. lookups, pivot tables, control sheets)
Experience liaising with cross-functional teams and external service providers
